Fire Escape
Tucked away in my nest or bungalow. Stored in my dreams for safe keeping or a keepsake.
Curled up with no worries awake. And then it dawned on me towards you to rise and fall like the soil below us and the stars above. Outside noises coming up the stairs, like a heel click or the hiss of the snare.
Time is cheap and I can’t run. But run you will to the starry sidewalk. Tick goes the clock and I rush you out.
Shuffle around the back corner and out the exit door. Enter your arena of stars with your breath turning sharp above the screeching cars.
Two flights behind and the pavement is near. Last step is a jump and we’re apart but still tied to me. Now in the dark and unsure of us. You can see.
Exhale my kiss now.
The tides of your beating chest. Controlled by the moon put me at rest.
But now I cannot see. For you to be without me. A few more blocks in the square and your walk filters a stop. Tires screech to motion my broadcast our hidden beach where you must keep me.
The motor jolts and your hands fold. In the back plays landslide. And once you left, I put down my pay and died.
Ocean Soul
Swimming in my world, it's my world and no one else’s. I couldn’t see my blessings until I saw my weaknesses.
To be grateful is to be powerful, for without gratitude I am helpless beneath my soul.
Beneath my soul and beneath the surface, this will be my downfall until I am thankful for my services.
So today, and every day from here on out, I will breach the surface of my ocean soul, speak my invocations to see and appreciate my benedictions and foundations.
Because being me is all I hold.
Lunar Pools
The best nights are the ones when the moonlight shines through my window, spilling out a pool of galaxy onto my pillow. I twist my head back and forth like Willow.
It's an exhilarating experience feeling your very own thoughts race and run wild as if they weren't your own thoughts at all.
They run like stallions chasing nightfall.
The moon watches over me and guides me through life. And when she appears, once a month, to gaze into my life and check in on me.
She tells me there's something exciting happening while there's a change of tide within the sea.
Her cavalier smile makes me want to ask more.
I know I cannot, for the soil she provides which I tread over is what I adore.
Dirty Kicks
Swipe my foot on the running pavement.
Gliding down the street smelling your fragrance.
Shoulder the board climbing to your basement.
Summer sky couldn't be complacent.
Pick me up in the CRV, ask me to connect to the FMBT.
We'd drive to the cliffs that day, we lived in a dream that day, your eyes gleamed that day, those eyes they led me away.
Pink Le Fleurs trudging in the mud, Checkered vans covered in blood.
Rubber soles carry you, running from the flood
Of emotions wanting to explode making a thud.
Under the moonlight with rose tinted cheeks.
Only colored crimson after two or three drinks.
Neck protected by a Tiger's eye.
Exhale our kiss we could touch the sky.
Holes in our shoes, a burn in my chest.
Got no time to lose, it's time to rest.
